A new emulator is in town
Hello,
I'd like to announce a new ZX Emulator, it's Spectacol (https://github.com/bog-dan-ro/spectacol) a free (GPLv3+) emulator which currently targets Android devices (smartphones, tablets, and TVs) which I just released it on google play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.licentia.games.spectacol . Here
you can find a small promo video that presents most of the implemented features.
Spectacol is based on famous FUSE spectrum emulator (http://fuse-emulator.sourceforge.net), but it has it's own UI (built using Qt & QML). The UI was created with gamepad users in mind, so, you'll need a gamepad to play ZX games on your big screen Android TV, but of course touch screen users are not forgotten at all.
One of the coolest feature is the online search, which allows the user to access thousands of ZX Spectrum apps & games (from archive.org)! The search results are downloaded locally and they can be used to start the games offline.
For full feature list, please visit the project page: https://github.com/bog-dan-ro/spectacol

Russian models emulator
Hi
I remember some time ago reading about an emulator that supports many spectrum Russian clones... I've been googling now for more that 1 hour but haven't found it...
Anyone remembers the emulator name?
Thanks

Spectaculator and Windows 10
I've just 'upgraded' to a desktop PC with Win10. I've noticed Spectaculator as well as the Amiga emulator WinUAE suffer from juddery scrolling. Not every frame, but regular jitters. Both of these emulators ran absolutely flawlessly on my old Win7 laptop with built in graphics and 4gigs of RAM. I have my graphics settings at 50hz, have tried disabling WiFi and Windows defender. Nothing seems to stop the annoying 'jitter'.
If anyone has any suggestions i'd be happy to hear them.

Speccy vs Pi
I've been doing some side by side comparisons on emulation (rpi) vs actual speccy (48k+). And I'm really impressed with what Fuse can do when the pi is set to a 50hz video mode, it is pretty much flawless as far as my limited tests go. One place where I can always tell it's an emulator is jerky scrolling and as tests I've been looking at the text scroll when r-type finishes loading, as well as Flying shark in game and a couple of other games I know the feel of.
Now on my PC and laptop, there is a massive jerk in there - because the screens are running 60hz of course. On the Pi set to 50hz, it's pretty much indistinguishable to the real thing. But... using the libretro port of fuse (lr-fuse), there is a jerk. Not as bad as on a 60hz monitor but certainly noticeable on the text scroll. So I'm favoring the straight Unix port of Fuse, compiled from source (1.1.1). The only issue with that is, it doesn't have the onscreen keyboard that the LR version has (Which is really handy for starting games etc without needing a keyboard) and I cannot seem to figure out how to change the gamepad button mapping, which I'd prefer if they matched the rest of the libretro stuff on the Pi.
Can anyone offer any tips to help me reach this Nirvana? I want Fuse accurate emulation with an onscreen keyboard and configurable gamepad and the moon on a stick please! I'm happy to delve into source files and hack about if required.
Also interested in games anyone else uses to put emulation to the test?
(oh and the real speccy is going nowhere, but it can't be in two places at once!)

Retropie and Recreated ZX Spectrum
It's been over 30 years since I had a Spectrum but I want to get back into it. Partly for some nostalgic game playing but also to hopefully do some coding, and to have a platform for my daughter to learn coding the "proper" way.
My options seem to be:
1. Buy a refurbished Spectrum;
2. Buy a Recreated ZX Spectrum and rely on their app and any other (probably) Android based emulators that I can use with it;
3. Option 2 plus buy a Raspberry Pi 2 and install RetroPie onto it.
I think that option 1 would be too restrictive and non-portable. So, currently, I am thinking that I should start off with 2 and then get the Pi 2 and setup option 3. This would then give me a portable Android based solution plus a hardware based system which I could use for other things (by having a second OS image on another SD card).
Has anyone tried the Recreated ZX Spectrum with the RetroPie? If so, which emulator(s) would you recommend? Also, are there any other Android emulators which work with the Recreated ZX Spectrum?

Fuse question?
I have a small problem with the Fuse on Raspberry Pi and Raspbian linux distro.
I'd like to change the default browsing path for my games, which is always pointed to the home directory at /home/pi.
For example, if all my games are stored in the /home/pi/roms/zxspectrum/etc I want to Fuse open that folder by default, every time I use emulator.
Maybe its possible to change this editing .fuserc config file, but I cant find any example how to do it.

FUSE v1.1.1: How to disable red tape icon down on right side screen
Does somebody know how I can disable the red tape icon down on the right edge of the screen. I use Fuse SDL v1.1.1 on the Raspberry Pi (RetroPie). I already checked in the general settings and unticked "show statusbar". After saving and starting up Fuse "show statusbar" is enabled again.
Please let me know, thanks!

Spectacol 2.0 new features
Hello everyone,
I'd like to know which ones from the opened features from https://github.com/bog-dan-ro/spectacol/issues you'd like to see in the next major version of Spectacol. Because I'm working on it in my spare time, I need to narrow the list to the most wanted features which I can code in the next 1-2 months :). If anyone wants to help with the coding, is welcomed to join the effort ;-) !

My own list has:
- Dual Joystick support (https://github.com/bog-dan-ro/spectacol/issues/4) this is a request from my son, so I must implement it :).
- Games metainfo (https://github.com/bog-dan-ro/spectacol/issues/34) this is a tricky one for two reasons:
- I need you help to decide what to put in the metadata, I created a gist here https://gist.github.com/bog-dan-ro/dd463a7d5f7d94aaa933d412a68b00de which contains the first first draft of the specification. Any feedback on this matter will be highly appreciated. If you wonder why I don't just use TZX format, well, after I checked it a little bit I don't think it's flexible enough for this job, i.e. it doesn't support back and forward compatibility and it (seems it?) doesn't support other media such as diskettes.
- it will take some time to implement it :)
- Customize the gamepad buttons (https://github.com/bog-dan-ro/spectacol/issues/6) it will take some time to complete, but there are game that need it ...

fuse feature request: print to pdf
Hello,
would it be difficult to make a "print to PDF" possibility?
that might make it easy to print screenstring to common files.
Like with +D or Disciple and any centronics or rs232 printer.
i have an epson-fx80 that can print the doublesize screen from disciple and +d
It would be nice if that is possible with the emulators, like fuse, aswel

Vega and .tap files
Hi all,
I've been trying to load .tap files on my vega and have followed instructions, but end up with a grey screen saying "Program:?????????
0 OK, 0:1"
I've tried contacting retro computers to ask about this, with no response. Also tried the net.
Any of you knowledgeable people on here have any idea what might be happening?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Tap or TZX to MP3
Morning all,
Is there any software which will convert a .tap or .TZX files to .mp3? I'm thinking of buying one those mp3 cassette adaptors on Banggood.
I could record off Spectaculator through audacity but was hoping for something that would convert via the command line or similar. Linux or Windows is fine.
Thanks in advance

RetroPie lr_fuse Kempston as default?
Hi!
The lr_fuse seem to have the Cursor interface as default. How can I change it (permantly if possible) to Kempston without interfering with the other retropie emulators?
Thanx!

Spectaculator Joystick Problem
So I decided to install Spectaculator 8 on my Windows 10 laptop. I have been trying to use my Xbox One pad for the emulated joystick and for some reason whichever joystick I choose to emulate it always make the joystick go up, even when I am not pressing anything on the joystick. I looked at the joystick properties in Windows and it does not display this issue,I think it is something to do with the emulator itself. I have used this pad with other Windows based games on this laptop and it does not do this. Any ideas how I can fix this?
