University Dissertation

I'm in my second year of a Computer Software Development Degree, and have to produce over the next 13 weeks a mini-dissertation that leads in to my degree dissertation next year. I'd like to do something that involves spectrum, or retro-computer emulation and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. It should be in the form of a question that the dissertation seeks to answer. A problem that is either solved or is proven to be un-solvable.
